Turkish Family Law Separate Property
Merhaba,
I am latvian citizen, soon getting married to turkish citizen in Turkey. I own property in Latvia, which in fact is my parents property (they live in), but registered to my name. According to latvian family law the property you owned before you married is your separate property. Is it the same in turkish law? Or what steps should I take to pretect my parents property of dividing in future, if things go wrong? Any other legal suggestions on getting married in Turkey for foreigner?! Thank you very much in advance! |

Labdien,
Turkish civil code considers the personal properties and assets as separately belonging to the spouse as well as the Lativan law. Any property acquired by a spouse before the marriage belongs to him/herself and no claim can be directed by the other spouse towards the concerned property in case any issue probable to occur some day. Best wishes. |
