Turkish Guy Who Graduated From An English Law School - Equivalency?
Dear all,
I am a Turkish guy practicing law in England & Wales and I would like to register with the Bar of Istanbul. As far as I understand, since I have already practiced law in the UK for over 4 yrs and I hold an English law degree, I won't have to undertake the internship/training at the bar. Nor do I need to pass the "Law Exam". However I still need to pass all the exams for subjects I haven't studied in accordance with Turkish law. Please let me know how I can take these exams (do I need to sit for classes? or just take the exams? & will any university allow me to sit for their final exams even though I am not a student there?) and please tell me which courses are "required" or "core" in Turkish law e.g. in England (Constitutional Law, Tort, Contract, Criminal Law, Property Law, EC/EU Law, Equity & Trusts) any help would be greatly appreciated... hope all is well Turco-Brit |

There is no CPE (or GDL) in Turkey. Contact law schools ( hukuk fakultesi) personally. I once knew an american law school graduate who managed to cross qualify. They will tell you what the core subjets will be. Good luck.

Conditions for the Admission into the Turkish Bar Association
In order for you to be admitted into the Turkish Bar System, you have to prove that you are a graduate of any Turkish or foreign law school first. Then, those who are graduates of any foreign law school should document that they have completed any missing subjects with regards to the related curriculum of a Turkish law school by passing the required exams. Therefore, you have to directly apply to any law school administration first. Only after you have completed those courses and taken the exams will you be eligible for the training session at the bar. Your reference guide of course is the Turkish Lawyers Act, Article no. 4
