illegal drug use

I was wondering if anyone would be able to provide me with information regarding smoking marijuana in the Turkish side of Cyprus. my partner was caught smoking in his home with 45grams of the drug last year. (may 2009). he was on a student visa studying at the near east university, but is a Jordanian national holding a full Jordanian passport. He has been awaiting trial for over one year. with still no date set for court. He has been withdrawn from the university and his passport has been taken by the police.

Does anyone know the legal laws on this and what he could be sentenced? His father has become critically ill and is suffering heart attacks due to stress and anxiety over his son. he would like to return home but is unable to. he has had two lawyers but both have just demanded money and not provided him with any assistance. he does not speak very well the local language so needs assistance in English. could anyone offer any help please?
