I am the orignial poster of this topic. I guess it must be that it depends where you live in Turkey and what the local customs are. Yesterday a long-time foreign resident died where I live (a small town) and it turns out that there is a small "foreigner's cemetary" adjacent to the regualar cemetary, and this is where all foreigners are buried. I don't know what would have happened if he had had Turkish citizenship though, my Turkish husband doesn't know either.
